First Aid at Work is the most comprehensive workplace first aid qualification. Over three days you will cover everything in the Emergency First Aid at Work course plus a much wider range of injuries and medical conditions, so you can act with confidence in any situation.
Who needs FAW?
If your first aid needs assessment identifies significant hazards, such as machinery, working at height, chemicals or vehicles, or if you have more than 50 employees on site, the HSE expects you to have First Aid at Work trained first aiders. Many care providers, schools and sports facilities also choose FAW as the gold standard.
What the course involves
The course runs over three consecutive days or can be split over three weeks to suit your rota. Every day is highly practical with scenario based learning, so by day three you will be managing realistic incidents from start to finish.
Requalification
Your certificate is valid for three years. Before it expires you can take the two day FAW Requalification course rather than repeating the full three days.

- Secondary survey and casualty monitoring
- Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains
- Head, neck and spinal injuries
- Chest injuries and breathing problems
- Eye injuries
- Poisoning and anaphylaxis (including auto injectors)
- Major illness: heart attack, stroke, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy
- Bleeding control including tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
- Managing multiple casualties
Frequently asked questions
Can the three days be split up?
Yes. Public dates run on consecutive days, but for on site courses we can spread the three days over up to three weeks.
What is the difference between EFAW and FAW?
EFAW is one day and covers emergencies. FAW is three days and adds a much wider range of injuries and illnesses. FAW is required where the risks are higher or the workforce is larger.
Is lunch provided?
Refreshments are provided on public courses. Lunch is not included but there are plenty of options nearby.
